'Shostakovich: Life, Letters and Friendship'
Celebrity Concert: Carducci Quartet with Stephen Johnson, narrator
Premiered at the Barbican in November 2021, this event will be unmissable! 'Shostakovich: Life, Letters and Friendship - a portrait through words and music', was created by the internationally renowned Carducci String Quartet. Readings by BBC broadcaster and author Stephen Johnson, interspersed with excerpts from the composer's quartets, will throw a fascinating light on his turbulent life and times.

Royal Academy of Music
An ensemble of six multi-award-winning young musicians studying at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), including the Regency Quartet, will perform two late 19th-century masterpieces: Tchaikovsky’s sextet for strings Op 70, 'Souvenir de Florence', and Brahms' String Sextet No 1, Op18.
Two violins, two violas and two cellos to delight us on a late autumnal evening!

Northern Chords - piano quartet
Northern Chords Ensemble, founded and led by the acclaimed cellist and international conductor Jonathan Bloxham, will perform piano quartets by Mozart, Mahler and Brahms along with movements from 'Highland Scenes' by celebrated young British composer Matthew Kaner.

Celebrity Concert: Eric Lu, piano (cancelled and concert replaced)
A return visit by this winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition, who now has a growing international reputation as a concert pianist. Lu has been hailed as "a new magician of the keyboard". Tonight he will play works by Schubert and Chopin.

Daniel Lebhardt
We are delighted to have the chance to hear Hungarian pianist Daniel Lebhardt again. He will perform Haydn's Piano Sonata in E flat major, Beethoven's Piano Sonata No 23 in F minor, "Appassionata", Scriabin's "Vers la Flamme" and the Piano Sonata in B minor by Hungarian romantic composer Liszt.

The Mithras Piano Trio, BBC New Generation artists and multi-award winners, make a welcome return to Claygate to play Beethoven, Frank Bridge and Dvořák’s “Dumky” Trio.

Ensemble Mirage
Ensemble Mirage returns with a delightful programme of clarinet quintets by Howells, Françaix, Tchaikovsky (arranged by Takemitsu) and Mozart.
This concert was scheduled to open our season in September but was postponed owing to the period of mourning for HM Queen Elizabeth.
