We have just received the very disappointing news that Eric Lu will be unable to perform at our concert this Saturday, 4 February, owing to a minor injury.

WE ARE FORTUNATE THAT THE AWARD-WINNING HUNGARIAN PIANIST DANIEL LEBHARDT HAS STEPPED IN TO PROVIDE AN EXCELLENT CONERT PROGRAMME OF HAYDN, LISZT, SCRIABIN AND BEETHOVEN'S "APPASSIONATA". THE TIME AND VENUE REMAIN THE SAME.

ROAD CLOSURE IN CLAYGATE FOR RAILWAY BRIDGE MAINTENANCE FROM 1 FEBRUARY FOR APPROX. SIX WEEKS. The works will mean closure of Hare Lane, which will affect anyone travelling from Esher or the A3 via Milbourne Lane. Diversions will be in place from the Swan pub, along Littleworth Road and Oaken Lane. Turn right into Oaken Lane and then left at the T-junction by Champions, keeping right towards our venue, Holy Trinity Church, nearby on the right. We recommend also allowing more time to park for this celebrity event.

American classical pianist Eric Lu came to attention when he won the first prize and gold medal at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018, aged just 20. Since then he has enjoyed a successful career as an international concert pianist with a growing list of prestigious orchestras and solo engagements. He has performed debuts with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and Detroit Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl in July 2021, and the Finnish Radio Symphony, the Helsinki Philharmonic and the Oslo Philharmonic in spring 2022.

Lu was awarded a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant, joining a prestigious list of recipients.

In 2019, Lu appeared at the BBC Proms, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 23 with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and shown on BBC Four.

In September 2019, he joined BBC Radio 3’s prestigious New Generation Artists scheme.

Lu has an exclusive recording contract with Warner Classics, who released a recital of Chopin’s 24 Preludes, Schumann’s ‘Ghost’ Variations and Brahms’ Intermezzo No 1 as his second album. Previously they had released a recording of his performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 4, recorded live at the Leeds with the Hallé and Edward Gardner. Patrick Lemanski, Director of Classics at Warner Music, said then, “The way he played Beethoven’s 4th Concerto was so evidently moving that I knew his performance was not just about technique and virtuosity: I was in the presence of a new magician of the keyboard…”

Lu performed the Chopin Preludes for us in December 2019 and we eagerly await his return visit in 2022.
